The HR Director acts as strategic HR business partner to a functional group/s within the organization.  Leads the HR team in supporting multiple units within the functional business group/s. The HR Director is responsible for using HR expertise to shape advice and strategy to assist the business in achieving goals. The role serves as a consultant and service provider on key areas of talent management, performance management, change management, culture and employee relations. This position is based out of our Hong Kong office.  

Primary Duties

  • Facilitate effective communications, leads through change and fosters cultural progress.

  • Administer employee relations policies and programs in compliance with company policy and country specific legislation.

  • Drive organizational and operational alignment between employees and management across multiple geographies within the business group.

  • Act as an advisor to the leadership team in matters of compensation, reward strategies, benefits, performance management, talent management and employee relations to the teams based in the region.

  • Deliver business outcomes by advising the leadership team on HR best practices and acting as a role-model for the rest of the team.

  • Manage a team of HR professionals; leading them and directing them in day to day specialist and generalist operations and developing them for future growth.  

  • Make Wolverine an amazing place to work by creating a positive and engaging employee experience.

  • Develop a prominent talent pipeline through robust capability and competency development; resource and succession planning.

  • Develop strategic and long term talent initiatives that result in the attraction, selection and retention of talent across all positions within the functional business units. May negotiate and administer employment contracts, including expatriate administration.

  • Responsible for identifying training needs and working in partnership with the Training team to design and implement impactful learning and development opportunities.

  • Identifies monitors, analyzes and presents key metrics to the leadership team to enable good business decisions. Information comes from a variety of sources and must be synthesized and distilled. Analysis is often complex and the data gathering process is constant - using both formal and informal channels.

  • Collaborates with Corporate HR to develop and/or implement compensation and reward strategies that attract and retain top talent.

  • Ensure compliance and alignment with country, state and local laws and company HR policies and practices.

  • Perform duties consistent with the company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.

  • Perform other duties as required/assigned by manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant HR experience. HR generalist experience required and at least one specialist assignment preferred.
  • Experience in managing multiple direct reports, both locally and remotely.
  • Proficient in the use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage conflict and use good judgement.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organization, up to an including senior levels. Strong relationship-building & team collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze business metrics and external business conditions.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Desires a fast-paced, ever-changing, fun environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.


Normal office environment. 

Some domestic and international travel required, approximately 10%-25.
