Maintenance Specialist
PRIMARY DUTIES
Preventive Maintenance
- Complete scheduled inspections and maintenance on motors, conveyors, pneumatic tools, and facility equipment.
- Communicate PM needs and findings to Operations to reduce downtime and ensure equipment reliability.
Diagnose Equipment
- Identify mechanical issues by observing machinery in operation and using diagnostic tools and technical references to determine root causes of failures.
Repair and Rebuild Mechanical Components
- Safely dismantle, repair, and reassemble equipment following lockout/tagout and manufacturer specifications while inspecting and replacing worn or damaged parts to restore full function.
Troubleshoot Mechanical and Electrical Systems
- Apply mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical troubleshooting methods to resolve issues and recommend long‑term corrective solutions that prevent recurrence.
Fabricate or Modify Parts
- Use shop tools such as welders, grinders, and drills to fabricate or modify repair parts as needed, ensuring all components meet safety, quality, and performance standards.
Maintain Inventory of Parts and Supplies
- Monitor and replenish parts, tools, and maintenance supplies while keeping the shop and storage areas organized, clean, and properly labeled.
Document Work and Equipment History
- Accurately record maintenance activities, parts usage, and repair details in CMMS systems and communicate recurring issues or equipment needs to supervisors.
Maintain a Safe and Compliant Work Environment
- Follow OSHA safety standards, including lockout/tagout procedures, and proactively maintain clean, hazard-free work areas to support overall safety performance.
Support Operations and Other Departments
- Assist with equipment startups, adjustments, and troubleshooting during production, and provide basic technical guidance to operators while collaborating on repair prioritization.
- Support emergency repairs, seasonal facility projects, and other assigned tasks, including working extended or adjusted hours as needed to meet operational demands.
Administrative Tasks
- Assist with work order updates, purchasing needs, documentation, and team communication.
- Participate in meetings and provide maintenance status updates as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience, ideally in a distribution center or industrial environment.
Preferred certifications: HVAC, electrical, electronics, welding, PIT (Powered Industrial Truck), Or ability to obtain.
Technical Competencies
Mechanical Aptitude: Understands mechanical principles and can diagnose, repair, and maintain machinery effectively.
Electrical Knowledge: Applies basic electrical theory to troubleshoot circuits, wiring, and control systems safely.
Preventive Maintenance Execution: Follows established PM procedures, identifies trends, and recommends improvements.
Safety & Compliance Orientation: Demonstrates strict adherence to OSHA, lockout/tagout, and company safety standards.
Equipment Troubleshooting: Uses analytical skills and diagnostic tools to identify root causes and implement lasting repairs.
Problem‑Solving & Technical Expertise – Quickly diagnoses mechanical issues and develops effective, practical repair solutions.
Attention to Detail – Ensures accuracy in maintenance work, documentation, and inventory management.
Communication & Collaboration – Communicates clearly and works effectively with Operations, Safety, and cross‑functional teams to reduce downtime.
Adaptability & Time Management – Adjusts to shifting priorities while balancing preventive maintenance with urgent repairs.
Independent & Self‑Motivated Work Style – Operates with minimal supervision, taking initiative to identify, prioritize, and complete tasks efficiently.
PHYSICAL
Physical capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to twist, stoop, squat, reach above shoulder height, and bend frequently.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds using safe lifting techniques.
Ability to perform repetitive movements using hands and feet simultaneously.
Must be able to work at elevated heights as required by assigned tasks.
Working Conditions
Due to the warehouse's open environment, must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions. Required to work at elevated heights.
