Wolverine Worldwide’s continued success is driven by our ability to stay true to our simple mission: we empower, engage and inspire our consumers – every step of the way.The role is primarily responsible for managing corporate finance team members, overseeing aspects the quarterly SEC reporting, technical accounting research and related implementation; training and development of team members with respect to US GAAP accounting and reporting, and reviewing work completed by team members. Position is exposed to the complex financial concepts and provides the opportunity to interact with and influence senior management. The role reports to the Corporate Controller.
Primary Duties:
- Review and oversee the corporate accounting team including the areas of lease accounting, pension accounting, goodwill impairment, consolidation and intercompany elimination, derivative accounting, statement of cash flows, debt, and other accounting matters.
- Oversee monthly consolidation and distribution of internal financial statements.
- Review and lead the filing process for the SEC forms 10-Q and 10-K and other external reporting as required.
- Lead interactions with the external auditors.
- Ensures that internal controls and financial reporting mechanisms prevent inaccuracies in financial statements and ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Prepare account reconciliations for assigned accounts.
- Research and summarize new accounting pronouncements.
- Present topics and matters to executive management including the CFO. Assist with special project and/or ad hoc reporting.
- Manage and lead a staff of 2 to 3 persons.
- Performs duties consistent with the Company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.
- Performs other duties as required/assigned by manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 7+ years experience in public accounting and/or related industry experience.
- Strong communication, managerial and interpersonal skills.
- CPA required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels throughout the organization.
- Must possess comprehensive knowledge of U.S. General Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Experience with SEC public registrant reporting, disclosures and correspondence with the commission on accounting related matters.
- Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines
