Distribution Engineer

Our distribution team works in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and are responsible for performing an array of duties including, but not limited to, receiving and processing incoming product, picking and filling orders, packing and shipping orders, inspecting product for defects, and assisting leadership in continuously improving methods in all processing areas and functions. Desired skills include the ability to work quickly and efficiently, use proper lifting techniques (lifting up to 50 lbs.), work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment, and work a flexible schedule as required based on business needs.

Responsibilities

This position provides intermediate-level engineering support for the distribution facilities to control costs (identify non-value-added activities), implement process changes, and maintain business systems. Enhances the distribution processes, identifying bottlenecks, managing KPIs, and consulting internally to improve operational effectiveness. Delivers engineering and systems projects by partnering with internal engineers, outside vendors, stakeholders, and project partners, utilizing technical knowledge to attain successful project outcomes.

Primary Duties:

Operational Processes

Contributes to process and business systems analysis to identify gaps and improvement opportunities for operational activities. Ensuring processes and procedures comply with applicable regulations and customer requirements. Executes and recommends revisions to methods of operation, equipment layout, facility layout, or other changes to increase production or improve standards. Performs day-to-day procedures and solutions to achieve measurable process improvements by defining, designing, and implementing continuous improvement programs using the applicable methodology and analytics. Communicates KPI reporting for management review and ensures action and control. Applies statistical methods
and performs mathematical calculations to determine staff requirements, production standards, and procedure improvements to reduce variance and increase efficiency. Contributes to standard operating procedures in distribution operations to ensure employees work safely and understand procedures for optimal performance.

Business Systems

Support the implementation of new or upgraded software and applications to assist and/or automate processes, leading to operational efficiencies. Support the maintenance and troubleshooting of Warehouse Mgmt. Systems and Labor mgmt. Software and applications to accurately reflect labor utilization and performance within the operations

Project Support

Apply intermediate-level technical subject matter knowledge to consistently and professionally complete small/ medium projects per the defined scope, budget, schedule, and purchase equipment and software. Engage with distribution employees through training and presentations to inform them of the implementation of new equipment or technology and process changes.  

Performs duties consistent with the Company’s AAP/EEO goals and policies.

Performs other duties as required/assigned by the manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Engineering, Business, and /or Supply Chain
  • 3+ years or more of related warehouse engineering experience in the Distribution, Warehousing and/or Manufacturing, Transportation, and Supply Chain Logistics industry required years’ experience in the supply chain, engineering, warehousing/distribution settings.
  • Relationships: Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, workgroups, customers, supervisors) Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Effective interpersonal skills, building effective partnerships, systems, and change implementation skills, strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Process Improvement – Ability to contribute to changing current processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Interpret Data – Ability to read, interpret, and draw accurate conclusions from technical or business material.
  • Communicate Business Information—Effectively communicate and present data (both verbally and in writing) to influence all audiences; help others understand data and translate it into actionable business insights.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities—The Ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, or activities, making effective judgments about prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Project Management – Ability to lead resources and provide technical guidance to meet project objectives.
  • Critical Thinking:  Ability to formulate conclusions and recommendations using facts and data, business analysis, deductive reasoning, and sound judgment.

Working Conditions:

Normal distribution center/office environment.  Some travel may be required.
